Fish facility

Fish facility

Fish facility for studying infectious diseases of breeding fish and models, equipment and services available for our partners

• A facility to study infectious diseases of farmed fish and on model fishes

The fish facility of IERP is available to carry out infectiology studies in BSL2 (300m²). These studies  can be performed thanks to:

  • the production of fishes with defined health and genetic status;
  • In vivo experimentation in infectiology with various pathogens (viruses, bacteria, prions) within the framework of researches linked to various field (infectiology, immunology, vaccinology and genetics).

• Equipment and expertise on farm fishes and models

The facility include (122 aquariums and 14 basins) and benefit from the help of scientists from UR-VIM. IERP fish facility allow studies on various viral and bacterial pathogens (animals and zoonotics).

Two breeding areas with controlled health status: Breeding of reference line, transgenic and mutant (Zebrafish) lines, sensitive / resistant isogenic lines (trout), and the possibility to introduce new relevant species.

  • Trout area: 4 rooms equipped with thermo-regulated closed circuits;
  • Zebrafish area: A room equipped with 3 racks allowing a breeding of 5000 fish per year

A BSL2 experimental zone to investigate infectious diseases.

  • Two trout rooms: (15 closed circuits for investigations with pathogens);
  • A zebrafish room: Five racks of 18 aquariums.

Two laboratories for sampling and analyses

• Services available

Implementation and monitoring of experimental protocols in infectiology (sampling, measurements) and development of Zebrafish models for the study of infectious and / or inflammatory diseases.

→ Breeding in closed circuits with SPF status;

 Infectiology;

  • Different modes of inoculation at various stages of development;
  • Micromanipulation (zebrafish);
  • Injections (IM, IP, IC, IV) (trout and zebrafish);
  • Balneation (Unique Infection Model for the Study of Flavobacteria).

Phenotyping by two-photon microscopy within the BSL2 zone (real time or fixed tissues);
Development of Zebrafish models for the study of infectious and / or inflammatory diseases;
